How is this different from normal insurance?

It is parametric, which means the payout is tied to a number, the rainfall forecast for your venue, not to proving a loss. If the forecast passes the agreed trigger you are paid, automatically. There is no claims process.

Is the payout based on the forecast or actual rain?

The forecast. At the agreed check time we take the Met Office forecast for your event's time window and compare it with the trigger in your policy. It can feel very wet where you are standing while the forecast for the window stays under the trigger, and then no payout is due: the forecast is what your policy is settled against, so there is nothing to argue about afterwards. (Rainy Rewards, our separate free product, uses the morning forecast in the same way.)

Who underwrites the cover?

Rainy Refunds policies are underwritten by Tokio Marine HCC. Rainy Refunds Limited is an Appointed Representative of Stubben Edge and Partners Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
